Plants as Medicine: Nourishment for Survival and Evolution

The start of each month is when I like to pause, reflect, and write to my community. It’s become a ritual for me — an opportunity to check in with my heart and feel what message is most alive, what wisdom I might share that could inspire or support you.

This month, I feel called to share about my connection with the plants, and the deep truth that they are not only necessary for my survival, but also for my evolution.

The Spirit of the Plants

If you’re new here, you may not know that I feel every plant carries a spirit — an energy that meets our bodies and offers us medicine. Of course, plants sustain us physically: they nourish us, heal us, and have been used for centuries by ancient cultures for ritual, ceremony, and seasonal healing.

But their medicine is not just physical. It’s also emotional and spiritual. Each plant has its own unique vibration and wisdom, ready to meet us where we are.

Lessons from a Recent Plant Journey

Recently, I sat with plant medicine and was reminded once again of the aliveness of the plants. This journey took me deep, and it was not always easy — there were moments that felt incredibly challenging, where I had to face the shadows within. Suppressed emotions, both conscious and unconscious, surfaced through wails, tears, laughter, and moments of absolute stillness as I absorbed new realisations. Layers of repressed thoughts, words, and actions stored in the body released with strong physical expression. And yet, this is where the healing lies.

Through the plants, I remembered that everything is connected. Every thought, word, and action creates ripples — touching not just our own lives but the lives of others, weaving us into an infinite web of energy.

I was shown the beauty and the pain of being alive. Both are teachers. The tears, the ache, the moments where it feels like too much to bear — even these are messages. They ask me to listen, to feel, to ask: what do I need? And then, to take action.

Supported by the Web of Life

The plants remind me that I am not alone. Support is everywhere — in the people I seek out and connect with, and in the plants that nourish me every single day.

The trees give me air and take away what I no longer need.
The rose brings me into softness and divine feminine essence.
Cacao grounds me into my body with both strength and compassion. Berries, herbs, fruits, and vegetables — each carries its own medicine, feeding not just my body, but my spirit.

And behind each plant stands the miracle of life itself — the sun, rain, soil, and unseen processes that allow them to grow and thrive. When I pause to take it all in, it feels utterly miraculous!!

Gratitude for the Plants

So I come back to the earth, this body, this land — and I say thank you. Thank you to the plants that sustain not only me, but all beings. Thank you for the medicine, the nourishment, and the teachings. To the earth for her unconditional love and replenishment.

The plants remind me that life is not only about appreciating the beauty, but also about allowing myself to be humbled, cracked open, and transformed. This is evolution.

Working with the Plants

If this perspective speaks to you, you might love exploring the plants in a more intentional way. I regularly work with cacao in my circles and 1:1 sessions, and I also weave native plants into my sound journeys — right now, I’m working closely with the hawthorn tree, known for its heart-healing properties.

If you’d like to join me in one of these spaces, you can explore my upcoming events here.

If you feel called, take a moment today to pause with a cup of tea, a piece of fruit, or simply step outside and breathe with a tree. Notice what arises. I’d love to hear if anything speaks to you.

Have you ever felt the spirit of a plant in your life — even in a subtle way? Share your story with me; these sharings weave the web of our collective remembering.

With and for love

Ruth
